Emergency workers rescued Sunday a man trapped between a New York University dorm and a parking garage in Lower Manhattan.

Dozens of firefighters at 80 Lafayette Street were able to extricate the victim, who officials say was alive and conscious when he was rescued.

An NYU spokesperson said that the victim is an undergraduate student at the university but did not live in the dorm.

Friends told NY1 that he was visiting the residence hall and was last seen walking up the stairs.

According to an official at the scene, the space that the victim was wedged between was about 1.5 feet to two feet wide.

A breathing apparatus was lowered to the victim, according to fire officials, and emergency workers were forced to breach a wall in order to extricate the victim.

A fire official at the scene said it was unknown how long the victim was stuck, but the official said that the victim was stuck in the between the buildings for 'a minimum of a day.'

It was unclear how far the victim had fallen, according to an official at the scene, and it was unclear how he got stuck.

The 19-year-old victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.
