Governor Jack Markell will work with the White House on climate change issues.
Friday, President Obama named Markell to his newly-formed task force to address climate change. The group is made up of eight governors and many other officials from across the country.
Task force members will draft recommendations to the president on how to best combat, adapt and prepare for climate change.
In a statement, Markell says, 'I believe we can strengthen the economy and improve the resiliency of the environment at the same time and I look forward to serving on this new task force.'
This past June, President Obama launched his Climate Action Plan, which includes cutting carbon pollution, preparing communities for climate change and address the issue at the international level.
The task force will first meet in early December, with three other meetings scheduled through July 2014. Their recommendations will be due next winter.
