Univ. of Oklahoma president says no evidence of shots fired on campus

NORMAN, Okla. - The president of the University of Oklahoma at Norman told reporters Wednesday afternoon that police 'have found no evidence of shots being fired,' despite an earlier report of a shooting.

'It appears to have been a false alarm,' said UO president David Boren.

Boren said the initial report may have been from someone who heard something that sounded like a gunshot. He also told reporters that Gould Hall has been searched and no shell casings or shooters were found.

Boren said the 'three shots' the person who called police reported hearing may have been noise from construction machinery that may have backfired.

At 11:17 a.m., police got a report of shots fired on campus. OU sent this text out to students: 'OU Emergency: Shooting on campus. Avoid (Gould Hall). Seek immediate shelter in place.'

Gould Hall is the architecture building. It's on the south end of campus near the football stadium and Gaylord College.

The campus is about 20 miles south of downtown Oklahoma City.
