Celebration: 2014 is the Chinese Year of the Horse

Google has created a doodle to mark the start of the Chinese New Year.

The American internet giant has devised one of its iconic moving illustrations to celebrate the advent of the Year of the Horse.

The image shows a smiling girl with brown hair and rosy cheeks moving backwards and forwards on a wooden rocking horse.

Behind her, a grinning young man can be seen carrying Chinese lanterns and tinsel in preparation to begin the festivities.

Last year was the Year of the Snake.

At Chinese New Year, people traditionally wear red clothes and give children so-called lucky money concealed in red envelopes.
