White powder scares were reported at three hotels in or near East Rutherford, N.J., home of MetLife Stadium, where the Super Bowl will be played on Sunday.

White powder scares were reported Friday at three New Jersey hotels near the site of the Super Bowl - and a letter containing a suspicious substance was addressed to Rudolph Giuliani and sent to the Midtown office of the former mayor, authorities said.

The hotels are in or near East Rutherford, N.J., the town in which MetLife Stadium is located.

Hazardous materials teams were sent to the hotels in the late morning Friday, and are testing the powder; it was not immediately clear how the suspicious substances came to be detected at the hotels. It also was not clear if anyone was potential exposed.

Also, at about 10:30 a.m. Friday, an employee in the offices of Bracewell & Giuliani, at Sixth Ave. and W. 48th St., was exposed to white powder when he opened a letter addressed to Giuliani, authorities said.

Eight people who were in the mail room at the time were exposed to the powder, seven of whom may have been contaminated, a police source said.

None of them, including the man who opened the letter, showed any ill effects. The 48th floor of the building was evacuated for a short time.

It was not known what substances were involved in any of the four cases.
