Hawaii high school under lockdown after 'combative' runaway teen shot by police

Rossevelt High School in Honolulu, Hawaii is seen under lockdown after a shooting was reported around 8:30 a.m. HST.


A high school in Hawaii is under lockdown after shots were fired, possibly injuring two students, according to reports.


A 17-year-old boy at Roosevelt High School in Honolulu was hospitalized for a gunshot wound to the wrist after shots were heard around 8:30 a.m. HST, as the Star Advertiser reports.

A suspect is in custody and two people have been hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries, KHNO reported.



An EMS worker told KHON that the 17-year-old was a runaway who was confronted by police officers in an administration office when the student allegedly lunged at an officer with a knife.

The officer reportedly responded by firing two shots, one of which hit the student in the wrist.


Students told Hawaii News Now that an individual was heard running around the campus, banging on doors.

In a text message sent out to parents, the school worked to assure them that: 'The situation at Roosevelt is under control.'


'The Honolulu Police Department is wrapping up their investigation,' the message obtained by the Star Advertiser read. 'Again, the situation is under control. Please remain calm.'


The school is planning on releasing all students at 10 a.m.
