JetBlue grounds Boston, NY

JetBlue Airways is temporarily grounding all flights to/from Boston -- including service to Pittsburgh -- as it tries to recover from the winter storm that wrecked travel plans in the Northeast.

Thousands of flights have been cancelled coast to coast after the New Year's storm, including a dozen to and from Pittsburgh due to weather-related reasons in Chicago, Cleveland, New York and Boston. WCVB-TV in Boston reported that JetBlue was standing down its operations -- and flights -- from Boston and three airports in the New York region at 1 p.m. Monday.

The airline said it hoped to have flights resumed by 10 a.m. Tuesday, WCVB-TV reported.

That would automatically impact Pittsburgh International Airport, where JetBlue flies to Boston twice a day. JetBlue Flight 1686 leaving Pittsburgh at 6:15 p.m. was canceled. JetBlue Airways Flight 1286 was diverted to Albany, N.Y., on Monday morning after being in a holding pattern in central Massachusetts for a time, according to FlightAware.com.

JetBlue Flight 1285 arrived from Boston at 8:13 a.m. Monday but another flight to Pittsburgh, 1685, was canceled Monday.

There were at least 14 arrivals and 12 departures canceled at Pittsburgh International Airport on Monday.
