Forecasters are warning that freezing rain may pose a threat to commuters during the morning rush hour.

The National Weather Service says a freezing rain advisory is in place in the Philadelphia region until 9 a.m. Some snow is also possible this morning.

The weather service says motorists should watch out for black ice, especially on bridges and overpasses.

By mid-morning, the temperature should rise above freezing and any precipitation will turn to rain only.

Rain is less likely during this afternoon and evening the weather service says.

But more showers are on the way Saturday, when rain could fall most of the day.

The weather service says periods of heavy rain and a potential thunderstorm are likely Saturday, with 1.5 to 2 inches of rain expected to fall.

A flood watch has been issued for much of the area for Saturday. Forecasters say the heavy rain combined with the melting of ice jams formed during recent frigid temperatures could cause creeks and rivers to flood.

A high temperature of 43 degrees is forecasted for today, while the high is expected to reach 62 on Saturday.
