CNY/NNY/S. Tier: Sen. Schumer Supports Obama Administration's Approach for ISIS TakedownPlay now
The Islamic Militant Group released this video had a clear message seconds before it showed the beheading of a British hostage. The executioner from ISIS said the killing was carried out due to the United Kingdom joining the U.S. in trying to take the terror group down.
The victim has been identified as David Haines. The 44-year-old was abducted in Syria last year. British Prime Minister David Cameron called for an emergency meeting shortly after the video's release.'We cannot just walk on by if we are to keep this country safe. We have to confront this menace,' said Cameron.
Cameron didn't say if any new military action would result but vowed to continue to help U.S. forces.
On CNN's State of the Union, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said airstrikes and intelligence operations would continue in Iraq and Syria. He said several nations have agreed to help in the fight.
'Not only our friends in Europe and Asia but also are partners in the region. Muslim states. Sunni States,' said McDonough.
The Obama Administration has said the effort will not include American troops on the ground. New York Senator Chuck Schumer supports the approach.'No nation building. No boots on the ground but protect the homeland using intelligence, reconnaissance, drones,' said Schumer.
Barack Obama also said Syrian rebels will be trained to help take down ISIS. Some we spoke with welcome that plan more than others.
Haines is the third Western person who was been executed by the Islamic State, following American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff. There could be a fourth, another British hostage was also threatened in the video.
