(CNN) -- Former U.S. Rep. James Traficant of Ohio died on Saturday after suffering injuries in an accident on his farm in Greenford, Ohio, earlier this week, family spokeswoman Heidi Hanni said.
The longtime congressman passed away at St. Elizabeth Health Center, the Youngstown Vindicator reported.
Traficant, 73, represented Ohio for nearly 20 years in the House. He was convicted of bribery while in office and served seven years in prison. After his release in 2009, he ran for his old House seat, but lost to current Rep. Tim Ryan.
Traficant was riding a small 1943 tractor on Tuesday when he lost control, causing the tractor to roll over him, local police said. He was rushed to the hospital and was in critical condition until his death.
