Dead fetus found in bag at midtown store

A security guard stopping two teenage girls to question them about shoplifting from a midtown Victoria's Secret Thursday made a horrifying discovery - one of the teens was carrying a dead fetus in a bag, police sources said.

The guards at the lingerie store grabbed the two 17-year-olds inside the Broadway store near Sixth Ave. at about 1:10 p.m., sources said.

When they looked through their belongings, they found what appeared to be a dead newborn male, police sources said.

One of the teens - who sources said had just given birth - was rushed to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

The second teen was taken to an area precinct stationhouse for questioning, sources said.

It was not immediately clear if the young woman gave birth in the store.

The city Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine how the newborn died, sources said.
