FBIAbigail Hernandez, 15, was last seen on Oct. 9, leaving Kennett High School in Conway, N.H.
Authorities in New Hampshire say a missing teen sent her mother a letter postmarked just a week after she vanished.
Abigail Hernandez, 15, went missing on Oct. 9 after she left Kennett High School in Conway and never came home.
At a news conference Friday, New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young didn't release any details about the letter, saying only that it was postmarked Oct. 23 and that experts confirmed Abigail wrote it.
Abigail's mother, Zenya Hernandez, received it on Nov. 6 and immediately turned it over to police.
'When we received this letter, I will tell you it was unprecedented,' FBI special agent Kiernan Ramsey told reporters. 'It gave us hope.'
Nearly two months later, it remains unclear if Hernandez ran away or was abducted.
Thought it was possible the teen left on her own, Ramsey said the investigators' 'worst fear' was that someone was now 'coercing' or 'manipulating' her.

Ramsey said investigators were also worried she could be a target for sexual predators.
On the day she disappeared, cops say, Hernandez took her normal route home and sent several text messages to a friend between 2:30 and 3 p.m.
The last was sent at 3:07 p.m. from somewhere near the Cranmore Mountain Resort, some 2.5 miles from her home.
New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said investigators were chasing every lead, and urged the public to keep a vigilant lookout.
'Look at your neighbor. Look at the grocery store. Look at your church,' Young said. 'Is there somebody you haven't seen here before?'
