Poll: Support for US war in Afghanistan at all

According to a new poll report, support for the US war in Afghanistan has significantly reduced among the Americans.

According to a CNN/ORC International poll released Monday, support for the war is dipping below levels of support for American intervention in Iraq and Vietnam.

The survey was conducted between December 16 and 19, where 1,035 adults were questioned nationwide by telephone.

Majority of Americans would like to see U.S. troops pull out of Afghanistan before the December 2014 deadline, according the survey report.

The supporters of the US war in Afghanistan has dramatically decreased from 52% in December 2008 to only 17%, while the opponents number has increased to 82%, up from 46% five years ago.

CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said, Those numbers show the war in Afghanistan with far less support than other conflicts.'

'Opposition to the Iraq war never got higher than 69% in CNN polling while U.S. troops were in that country, and while the Vietnam War was in progress, no more than six in 10 ever told Gallup's interviewers that war was a mistake,' Holland quoted by CNN said.

According to the survey report, fifty-seven percent say the conflict is going badly for the U.S. and only a third say America is winning the war in Afghanistan.

Similar poll reports have shown reduced support for US war in Afghanistan. According to a December AP poll, 57 percent of Americans thought it was the 'wrong thing to do' to invade.

While a recent Washington Post - ABC News poll revealed that 66 percent believe it was not worth fighting for.

United States and NATO may keep a residual force in Afghanistan beyond 2014, if the bilateral security agreement was signed between Kabul and Washington, to assist the Afghan national security forces.

U.S. could withdrawal all forces from Afghanistan at the end of next year if the bilateral security agreement between the two nations is not signed in the near future.
