The 88-year-old former first lady was reported in stable condition in Houston.
Former first lady Barbara Bush was hospitalized Tuesday with early signs of pneumonia, according to news reports.
The 88-year-old Bush was in stable condition Tuesday night at Methodist Hospital in Houston, KPRC-TV reported.
In a statement released after the news broke, the office of her husband, former President George H. W. Bush, said she was admitted Monday for treatment of 'a respiratory related issue.'
'She is in great spirits, has already received visits from her husband and family, and is receiving fantastic care. Updates will be issued when warranted,' the statement said.
Bush was first lady from 1989 to 1993. She is also the mother of former President George W. Bush and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
