President Obama is the most admired living man among Americans, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the most admired living woman, according to a new Gallup survey.
This year marks the sixth consecutive year that Mr. Obama has ranked as the most admired man and the 18th time Clinton has ranked as the most admired woman. Gallup has for the past 67 years asked Americans, in an open-ended format, to name the man and woman living anywhere in the world that they admire the most. This year's survey was conducted Dec. 5-8 and has a four-point margin of error.
As many as 16 percent of Americans named Mr. Obama as the man they admired the most, with former President George W. Bush and Pope Francis following with 4 percent each. Fifteen percent of Americans named Clinton as the woman they admired the most, with media mogul Oprah Winfrey garnering 6 percent. Five percent of Americans named first lady Michelle Obama, and another 5 percent named former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
It's not surprising Mr. Obama ranks as the most admired man: the sitting president has won that honor 57 times since Gallup starting asking the question. Last year, however, as many as 30 percent of Americans said Mr. Obama was the man they admired the most.
Clinton, meanwhile, has been named most admired woman more than any other woman in the history of the survey. Last year, 21 percent of Americans called her the woman they admired the most.
