12:54 am: LIVE: Netherlands vs Costa Rica 0-0 (SECOND-HALF)

3:20 am: Robben again with a darting run and is hacked down on the edge of the area by Diaz. It looks like it's only one outcome but the referee elects not to give the second booking. Van Persie over the free kick on the right corner of the Costa Rica box.

3:18 am:

3:18 am: Ohh missedd!!! What a chance for van Persie. Surely he just had to make contact. Sneijder comes in on the right and deceives Gonzalez. He curls in a perfectly weighted ball and it looks like van Persie just has to tap the volley home. But he completely fluffs it, misses and it's still 0-0. For a man of van Persie's calibur, it looked like just one outcome.

3:17 am:

3:11 am: Off the post! Navas well beaten this time but the post saves him. Sneijder's effort dips and curls over the wall and cannons off the post. The rebound comes out but is made clear by the Costa Rica defence.

3:05 am: SubstitutionThe first change for Netherlands. An exhausted looking Depay comes off and is replaced by Jermain Lens.

2:59 am: With just 20 minutes to go in the game. The score still reads - Netherlands 0-0 Costa Rica.

2:56 am: You'd think Van Gaal would follow suit and makes some changes to his side. Netherlands haven't looked comfortable during the second half and need to up their tempo.

2:54 am: Yellow CardBruno Martins Indi is the first Dutch player to go into the book. Ruiz tries to get on the end of a lofted pass from defence but Martins Indi's arms are all over the Costa Rica captain. He brings him down, and the referee says it's a foul and yellow card.

2:50 am:

2:45 am: It comes to de Vrij at the back post who's header ricochets off his marker. Good chance but the ball is hooked clear and Costa Rica come forward again.

2:40 am: Yellow CardAnd this might just provide the spark. Robben with a marauding one down the right an he's sandwiched by Michael Umana and Junior Diaz. It's lucky for Diaz who was already on a yellow but Umana comes away with the booking. And Robben is over the free kick.

2:17 am: HALF TIME - Netherlands 0-0 Costa Rica

2:16 am:

2:14 am:

2:13 am: A lot of Dutch possession, but they're forced to enjoy it in the midfield. Robben takes it down, then fresh-air swipes as he looks to shoot from the edge of the box. Hmm. This is not great.

2:10 am: #CRC three-marker plan on Robben: out-run him, throw a soft tackle in, slam a hard tackle! So far its worked.

2:09 am: FACT: If Costa Rica win they will be the first CONCACAF side to make the World Cup semi-finals since USA in 1930.

2:09 am: Yellow Card: Junior Diaz gets the first yellow card of the night, it looks a light challenge from Diaz on Robben and a theatrical fall from the Netherlands man but replays sows it's a good decision.

2:02 am: A foul from Van Persie so a free kick will be given to Costa Ricans. But the attempt went in vain and tit straight goes into the hands of Netherlands goalkeeper.

2:01 am: Half-an-hour is already over and the game is searching for its first goal. Who will get it first?

2:00 am: Great ball in from Bolanos but the ball is too high for Borges. Bruno Martins Indi may be slightly luckily to get away without a foul their, his hands were all over Borges, pulling his shirt. After 30 minutes - Netherlands 0-0 Costa Rica

1:56 am: Sneijder tries to lift a ball through to Depay who tries to use his pace but the Costa Ricans play a great offside trap and the flag is up. A major possession is on the Netherlands side.

1:55 am: Depay looks like he's about to shoot before passing to van Persie who's low, thumping effort is saved at Navas' feet. The rebound comes to Sneijder who again strikes a low shot but Navas is equal to it again.

1:55 am: Navas with a series of brilliant saves. The Dutch come forward after Campbell loses possession in the Netherlands box. Kuyt is down the right and elects to loft a low ball into Depay who's taken up a great position just inside the 18 yard box and is free.

1:53 am: A superb save by Costa Rica goalkeeper Navas. Despite two easy chances, Netherlands couldn't rip through the Costa Rica's post. Excellent job from the goalkeeper.

1:49 am: It looked like Borges was about to break clear after De Vrij makes a terrible clearance. Borges runs down the centre but miscontrols whilst attempting to get past Vlaar.

1:48 am:

1:45 am: A bit of possession for Costa Rica. Van Persie zips down the other end of the pitch, but his attempt to spring Depay clear down the left wing is misdirected. He had plenty of time but Costa Rica spoil his attempt.

1:41 am:

1:39 am: Arjen Robben has his first serious run at the Costa Rican defence, down the left. Costa Rica backtrack. Excellent work from the Dutch.

1:36 am: Both teams look as if they're playing with three at the back. Arjen Robben looked like he was in within the first 10 seconds as Holland race forward with Depay but the ball rolls harmlessly across the front of the Costa Rica box.

1:35 am:

1:31 am: The action has begun. Here we go!!!

1:30 am:

12:52 am: Goalkeeper Keylor Navas will start despite a sore shoulder.

12:52 am: Costa Rica called up Johnny Acosta to replace defender Oscar Duarte, who was sent off in the second-round victory over Greece.

12:52 am: Also, defender Daley Blind will move into midfield to replace the injured Nigel de Jong, and veteran Dirk Kuyt will again start in the defense, but this time he is expected to play on the right.

12:50 am: Costa Rica have already outdone their best World Cup performance, reaching the last 16 in 1990, much to the jubilation of fans back home whose celebrations have stretched long into the night.

12:49 am: Despite the talents of Joel Campbell and Bryan Ruiz in attack, it has been more a case of grit and organisation than Latin flair with Jorge Luis Pinto's side conceding only two goals so far and scoring five.

12:43 am: The irresistible fairytale of Costa Rica faces a day of reckoning against Louis van Gaal's hard, calculating Dutch side on Saturday in the Brazil World Cup's most unlikely quarter-final.
