The big news coming out of the Red Sox' 4-2 loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday is that Jon Lester has been scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday, John Farrell announced in his press conference after the game.
Brandon Workman will be called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to make the start. A corresponding roster move will be made on Wednesday to free up room for Workman on the active roster.
'In light of all the uncertainty surrounding Jon Lester, it's probably in everyone's best interest that he does not make that start,' Farrell said. 'So Brandon will be recalled; there will be a corresponding move, roster wise, at some point tomorrow.'
No trade was announced on Tuesday night. It is likely that the Red Sox decided to make this decision to give them more time to find a deal for Lester. It has been reported that there are as many as eight teams who have expressed interest in acquiring Lester before the July 31 trade deadline.
