Facebook unveiled a Connectivity Lab that will work on delivering the Internet to everyone through a combination of drones, satellites and lasers.
The project, which features experts from NASA and the National Optical Astronomy Observatory, is part of Internet.org, a partnership founded by Facebook and other companies to help bring Internet access to all parts of the world.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says Internet.org has made progress in areas including Paraguay and the Philippines, where it's helped 3 million new people access the Web.
'We're going to continue building these partnerships, but connecting the whole world will require inventing new technology too,' said Zuckerberg. 'That's what our Connectivity Lab focuses on, and there's a lot more exciting work to do here.'
According to a video detailing the Connectivity Lab, Facebook is exploring the use of interconnected satellites in low-density areas and drones that would beam down Web signals to areas with higher populations.
