Jogger finds missing infant alive in Houston; suspect sought

HOUSTON - A missing baby was found alive in tall grass by a jogger on Houston's north side early Monday, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.

Shortly after 3 a.m., an Amber Alert was issued for 8-month-old Genesis Haley, according to the station. A few hours later, the unidentified jogger told Houston police she found the crying child outside in a car seat. The baby was taken to the hospital for evaluation, and authorities said she appears to be okay.

Police said Genesis was in her mother's car at a gas station along Sam Houston Parkway West when the vehicle was stolen. The girl's mother told police she left the child in the car while she paid for gas inside the station. She said when she looked outside she saw her car being driven away, according to KHOU.

Officers found the vehicle abandoned a short time later. The station reports the license plates were missing, and items from the car were dumped in a nearby grassy area, where the baby was found, still in her car seat.

KHOU reports the search is on for the suspect and that a sketch of the man has been released. Authorities described the suspect only as a black male, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, in his late teens to early 20s. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to immediately call the Houston Police Department at 713-308-3600.
