A southern New Hampshire home exploded and burned after a police officer was shot by unknown gunman.

Dramatic video footage from WCVB-TV shows the Brentwood, N.H. duplex explode and quickly burn to the ground Monday afternoon. The incident began after an officer was shot around 4 p.m. and then flown to a local hospital.

The fire at 46 Mill Pond Road burned the shared building and was encroaching on a nearby home. The blaze had even spread to a patch of woods behind the home.

An officer first responded to the home, about 25 miles east of Manchester, N.H., after an altercation between a man and his son at the duplex, WCVB reported. The officer was shot and is reportedly in serious condition, according to the news station.

The home started on fire and then exploded just before 6 p.m. Firefighters responded to the scene to fight the blaze.

A WCVB reporter said he heard a loud explosion and then several 'pops' as the house became engulfed in flames. A news helicopter captured the entire scene.

Mill Pond Crossing, a community for people ages 55 and older, contains 47 homes on 36 acres, according to its website.
