Amber Alert: Father Accused Of Kidnapping 2

An Amber alert has been issued for Edwin Vargas, a 2-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped by his father, Abraham Vargas, 27, early this morning.

Officials believe that Vargas is driving a 2004 Orange Nissan Quest with tinted windows, license plate 7CIN189. LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman says the car has damage on the driver's side. Vargas is Hispanic, 5-foot-five-inches, 180 lbs. and was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt and jeans. The boy is Hispanic and wearing a red sweatshirt and blue sweat pants.

Vargas approached the boy and his mother outside of the Nissan, pushed the mother away from the car, took the keys and drove off with the boy inside, according to LAPD. This all happened in the 1000 block of Lorena St. in Boyle Heights.

The child's mother has a restraining order against Vargas, who is her ex-boyfriend. LAPD Captain Gerardo Lopez said that Vargas had made 'previous statements to other folks that if he had the opportunity he would take his child and flee toward Mexico,' KTLA reports. Police believe he may be headed to Tijuana.
