Gary L. Stewart of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, claims his biological father is the notorious Zodiac Killer.

The revelation was made in Stewart's book, 'The Most Dangerous Animal of All: Searching for My Father...and Finding the Zodiac Killer,' which was co-written by journalist Susan Mustafa and published by HarperCollins, CNN reported.

According to Stewart, the vice president of the Delta Tech Service cleaning company, his search for his real father led him to believe that he was the infamous murderer. His biological father, named Earl Van Best, Jr., is now deceased.

Stewart was abandoned as a baby but was later on adopted and lived a happy childhood. When he was 39 years old, he was contacted by his birth mother for the first time. This prompted him to look for his real father.

He kept a journal during his search which served as the basis for his published book.

Based on the discoveries that he made, which included his father's criminal record in San Francisco, he strongly believes his father was the Zodiac Killer.

Tina Andreadis, HarperCollins' publicist, said, 'Stewart's father had a criminal record in San Francisco, and there was a strong resemblance between his father's mug shot and the police sketch.'

'If you look at Gary's photo next to the sketch of the Zodiac [Killer] next to his father's mug shot, you can see that there is very clearly more than just a passing resemblance,' the publicist added. 'They look alike.'

From 1968 to 1969, the Zodiac Killer is believed to have murdered five individuals, although the killer claimed to have killed more than 30 people. The Zodiac gained public attention by sending numerous letters detailing his murderous actions to police officers.

To this day, the Zodiac Killer has not yet been caught or identified.

Upon learning about Stewart's book, California police authorities said investigations on the book's contents will be conducted to analyze their authenticity.

A representative from the San Francisco Police Department said, 'It's an open and active case, so we don't comment. But it's certainly something our homicide investigators will take a look at.'
