Angels first baseman Albert Pujols became the 26th player in major league history to hit 500 home runs, driving a Taylor Jordan pitch past the left field wall Tuesday in Nationals Park.
Pujols, 34, is the first player to reach the milestone since Gary Sheffield hit his 500th on April 17, 2009.
The fifth-inning homer put the Angels up 6-2 against the Washington Nationals.
The closest active player to 500 is Adam Dunn, with 443 home runs.
