Severe turbulence sent five people board a United Airlines flight bound for Montana, an airline spokesman said Tuesday.

Three crew members and two passengers were injured on the plane from Denver to Billings that reached its destination Monday at 1:23 p.m. local time. A flight attendant remained hospitalized.

One passenger, Bill Dahlin, told Billings television station KTVQ there was a lot of screaming when the airplane dropped sharply during its descent on Monday, and a woman struck her head on the ceiling so hard a panel cracked.

Another passenger told the Denver Post that the drop came out of nowhere and was accompanied by a loud bang.

'The sudden drop pulled everyone out of their seats, and I mean hard,' Joe Frank, 20, told the newspaper.

He added that the plunge sent a baby flying from a parent's arms and into another seat. The baby appeared unharmed.

'I didn't have my seat belt on, so I hit my head pretty hard. But what hurts is my lower back and hips,' he said.

There were 114 passengers and five crew members aboard the Boeing 737-700.
