19-year old Craigslist killer, Miranda Barbour is currently awaiting trial alongside her husband Elyytte Barbour, after being charged for the murder of Troy LaFerrara last November. LaFerrara was lured by Barbour on Craigslist after responding to a companionship for money ad where she agreed to have sex with LaFerrara for $100. Once the victim was in her car Miranda Barbour then stabbed LaFerrara 20 times in the front seat of her car while her husband held a cord around his neck.
'He said the wrong things,' Barbour said. 'And then things got out of control. I can tell you he was not supposed to be stabbed. My husband was just supposed to strangle him.'
She claims to have lied to him about her age and he said it was ok. This is when the decision was made to go ahead with the murder of the craigslist victim as opposed to letting him out of the car.
'I lied to him and told him I just turned 16,' she said.
'He told me that it was OK. If he would have said no, that he wasn't going to go through with the arrangement, I would have let him go.'
However, the reason they committed the crime according to police reports was because the couple wanted to kill someone together. Now the Pennsylvania woman is claiming to have killed 'at least' 22 other people in Texas, Alaska, North Carolina, and California in the past six years as part of her involvement in a satanic cult.
According to the Daily Item, when asked Friday night how many people she had killed, Miranda Barbour said through a jailhouse phone: 'When I hit 22, I stopped counting.'
Barbour claims to have joined a satanic cult in Alaska (nine years after being raped at the age of 4) before moving to North Carolina. Barbour's mother Elizabeth Dean confirmed that when Miranda was 4, she was sexually molested by her sister's husband, and that he was subsequently sentenced to 14 years in prison.
'It was bad,' Dean said. 'I never let (her) stay anywhere except for my sister's house, and I was devastated when I found out.'
Barbour said that she had begun using drugs after joining the cult and that she 'wasn't always there (mentally)... I knew something was bad inside me and the satanic beliefs brought it out. I embraced it.'
While in the satanic cult, Miranda allegedly became pregnant against the cult's wishes so she was tied her to a bed, given drugs and the cult members performed an 'in-house abortion.'
However, her mother on Saturday said that when Miranda told her about the abortion, she took her daughter to a doctor who said there were no signs of an ended pregnancy.
At this point she appears ready to speak with the authorities to help to find the bodies of the people she claims to have killed. 'I can pinpoint on a map where you can find them,' she said. 'I remember everything...It is like watching a movie.'
'I know I will never see my husband again and I have accepted that. I know I wanted to talk about all this because I know I had a 20-year window where I would possibly get out of jail and I don't want that to happen. If I were to be released, I would do this again.
'By no means is this a way to glorify it or get attention. I'm telling you because it is time for me to be honest and I feel I need to be honest.'
Last week a judge granted a lawyer's request to have Miranda Barbour evaluated by a psychiatrist.
Northumberland County District Attorney Anthony Rosini said last Tuesday that he would be seeking the death penalty for the couple in a joint trial.
'We believe that this is an appropriate case in which to seek the death penalty and that a jury would be likely to impose the death penalty,' Rosini said.
Prior to her revelations Friday night, the local police has started working with investigators from other states and the FBI about Miranda Barbour's possible connection to other killings.
'From information we gathered and from information gathered from her interview we are seriously concerned and have been in contact with the proper authorities,' Sunbury police chief Steve Mazzeo told Reuters
