Caustic comedian Joan Rivers was making progress in small increments as she continues fighting for her life in a Manhattan hospital, a new report claimed Tuesday.
Rivers, 81, remained in Mount Sinai Hospital five days after going into cardiac and respiratory arrest during a routine doctor's visit.
But E! News reports that Rivers, with the support of her daughter Melissa, was showing some positive signs.
'It's a slow process, but she's on the road to recovery,' the source said. 'She's getting better. Don't believe all this ridiculous speculation.'
Rivers' grim-faced assistant Graham Reed left the hospital Tuesday morning without comment.
Doctors were hoping to get a read on any damage caused when Rivers stopped breathing last Thursday morning at an Upper East Side clinic. Rivers was getting her throat checked out.
Doctors at Mount Sinai quickly placed her into a medically induced coma as they began running tests on the Emmy-winning Rivers.

Melissa Rivers and other close friends are maintaining a bedside vigil while hoping for good news on Tuesday.
'She is a rock,' the source told E! News about Melissa. 'She is calmer than I've ever seen her ... She is her mother's daughter and she's tough as nails. She's the person keeping everyone together.'
Melissa and her son Cooper flew cross-country Thursday after hearing the bad news, and she has been with her mother ever since
