Owners of the latest oversized iPhone may get a case of the bends.
The highly anticipated iPhone 6 and oversized 6 Plus went on sale Friday and the slimmed-down large screen newcomer came with an unwanted extra - it can be bent.
Reports have some users warping the slim aluminum case while stashing the phone in their pants pockets. It sounds like the kind of scurrilous rumor you'd expect a rival phone maker to spread, an urban tech legend meant to scare off would-be buyers.
But Unbox Therapy's Lewis Hilsenteger, a tech blogger playing the role of myth buster, took to video Tuesday to show whether the iPhone 6 Plus could be warped. Myth confirmed!
Hilsenteger, his thumbs turning red with effort but clearly more hipster than superman, managed to bend the upper third of the case by the phone's volume controls.
'Unfortunate, but under the pressure of my hands, it does bend quite significantly,' said Hilsenteger, who noted that when he tried to bend the phone back, the glass display cracked.
To be fair, Hilsenteger repeated the bend test on the Galaxy Note 3, another oversized phone but made with a plastic case. Using similar force, the Galaxy did not suffer any noticeable damage.
#BendGate has become a tending topic on Twitter, as much for mocking Apple as actual owners' complaints. Another tech blogger, Derek Kessler for iMore, said that simple physics points to just such a flaw, but it's an overblown one.
'The iPhone 5 and 5s also bend,' Kessler wrote. 'I've got an iPhone 5 with a slight bend to it, though the cause and time of the curve aren't known.'
Apple CEO Tim Cook reports the Cupertino, Calif. company sold 10 million of the iPhones 6s over the first three days, a record launch for a tech giant known for creating marketing buzz.

There's just one question left to ask: How tight are your pants?
