SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Authorities say three people are dead and seven others wounded in drive-by shootings in the Santa Barbara area.
Santa Barbara County sheriff's spokeswoman Kelly Hoover tells KEYT-TV two suspects have been detained after the gunfire Friday night near a student community next to UC Santa Barbara's campus.
The circumstances surrounding the shootings on the streets of Isla Vista were not immediately clear, but the station says police cordoned off four crime scenes, including one near a deli and another near a convenience store.
The station says a black BMW that may have been involved in the shooting slammed into as many as two cars.

The shooting prompted officials and UC Santa Barbara to issue alerts urging people to stay indoors.
Isla Vista is known for parties, including one last month that turned into a violent blowout.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
