Three teenage girls were killed in a suspected hit-and-run while trick or treating.
The 13 year olds, twin sisters and a friend, who were dressed in Halloween costumes were hit by an SUV while crossing a road in the South Californian town of Santa Ana.
Police spokesman Anthony Bertagna said the vehicle had been travelling at a 'high rate of speed' when it hit the girls just before 7pm on Friday.
Two of the girls died at the scene while the other was declared dead as paramedics prepared to take her to hospital.
Scores of people who were out enjoying Halloween events watched as police cleared the area.
Police say there were two men in the car suspected of hitting the girls.
After the collision, a witness followed the vehicle, a Honda CRV, and led police to where it was parked at a shopping plaza.
'We believe that we have damage that's consistent with a vehicle collision and we do believe that that's the vehicle at this time,' police chief Carlos Rojas said.
'We are still looking for the individuals that were inside the vehicle and, at this moment in time, we believe that they were two black males.'
Police say there were several witnesses to the crash.
