Patriots wide receiver Aaron Dobson was inactive on Sunday for the second week in a row and a report from the Boston Globe emerged claiming Dobson 'mouthed off' to offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and got benched.
Asked on Friday about the report, Bill Belichick said Dobson was benched for 'football' and he would have a statement on the matter. His statement is out and it calls the Globe report 'completely false.'
'In my year and a half with Aaron Dobson, he has always been respectful to me and to the rest of the coaching staff,' Belichick said in a statement. 'He has never once been argumentative or confrontational. The suggestion and reporting that his playing time was in any way the result of a 'loud disagreement' with a coach is completely false.'
Things have been a little testy around the Patriots this week, with New England coming off an ugly loss to the Chiefs on Monday night.
They couldn't produce any points or offense to speak of and certainly could've used Dobson, a second-round pick in 2013, to help the offense.
Whatever the reason, he wasn't there. On to Cincinnati?
