Apparently the coldblooded terrorists who savagely beheaded a kidnapped American journalism have a sweet tooth.

In an attempt to seem friendly and humane, Islamic State militants - the terrorist group that executed James Foley earlier this week - and their supporters have started posted images of themselves holding jars of Nutella.

The bizarre, sugary photos are part of a larger social media campaign meant point out similarities between the fighters and Westerners, the Wall Street Journal explained. Fighters in ISIS-held Iraq and Syria posed with the jars of chocolate-hazelnut spread because it's a familiar treat to Europeans and Americans.

In another attempt to strike a connection with the West, ISIS fighters have also tweeted about their love for parts of American pop culture.

But the innocent dessert and cat photos stand in sharp contrast to the gruesome execution video the group posted earlier this week.

On Tuesday, ISIS uploaded footage to YouTube showing the brutal beheading of reporter American James Foley. A masked fighter explained the 40-year-old was executed as retaliation for the U.S.'s airstrike campaign against terrorists in Iraq.

ISIS fighters and their sympathizers have also used social media to recruit more fighters and threaten attacks.

The U.S. government urged local police to be on high alert for possible homegrown terror after one apparent ISIS account tweeted photos of the terrorists' flag in front of the White House and in Chicago. The photos with accompanied by a cryptic message warning America that 'We are in your state. We are in your cities. We are in your streets.'
