The two Wisconsin preteens charged with stabbing their 12-year-old friend are sorry for the attack and called it 'wrong,' police said.
The middle school girls allegedly stabbed their classmate 19 times Saturday in an act of allegiance to Slenderman, a mythical creature they read about online. But the two Waukesha 12-year-olds told police that they struggled to decide who would be the one to wield the knife, NBC Chicago reported.
Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier invited their victim to a sleepover Friday night. When the three girls played hide-and-go-seek the next morning in a park, Geyser and Weier attacked, police said.
But the two handed the knife back and forth while arguing who should stab the girl and who should hold her down, police said. Ahead of the attack, Geyser had a 'nervous breakdown' and Weier said she was too squeamish to go through with the plan, they told police.
The victim was in stable condition Monday. Geyser and Weier have been charged with attempted murder.

During police questioning, Weier told investors that she regretted the stabbing, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
'The bad part of me wanted her to die, the good part of me wanted her to live,' she told police.
Geyser told officers, 'It was weird that I didn't feel remorse' but also said the stabbing was 'wrong.'
Both Geyser and Weier told investigators that they planned to kill the girl to please Slenderman, a demon-like creature who preys on children.

The girls said they read about the character on creepypasta.wikia.com, a website that publishes short, creepy stories. They planned to kill the girl and then run away to Slenderman's mansion in a Wisconsin forest, they told police.
The two girls were charged as adults with attempted first-degree murder Monday. If convicted, they could face up to 65 years in prison.
If the case is moved to a juvenile court, the girls could serve time in a juvenile facility until they are 25 years old, the newspaper explained.
Geyser and Weier are being held on $500,000 bail each.
