Tornado tears through southeastern South Dakota

WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. - The National Weather Service says a confirmed tornado has hit a small town in central South Dakota.


The twister hit in the town Wessinton Springs just before 8 p.m.,the town just northwest of Sioux Falls and has a population of about 1,000.


Homes and businesses have been damaged. One person was hurt and law enforcement is doing house-to-house checks in the town.


The tornadoes also touched down in the towns of Woonsocket and Alpena.
