Pioneering chemist Stephanie Kwolek, inventor of the bulletproof material Kevlar, has died at 90.

Kwolek, who died Wednesday, was a DuPont Co. chemist in 1965 when she discovered the lightweight stronger-than-steel fiber that's used in body armor around the world.

'I knew that I had made a discovery. I didn't shout 'Eureka,' but I was very excited,' said Kwolek, one of few women in a male-dominated field.
