Japan's Sony has said it expects to report a full-year loss of 110bn yen ($1.08bn; £665m), revising an earlier projection for a profit of 30bn yen.

The firm also announced it will try to sell its struggling Vaio PC business.

Sony revised its forecasts for its financial year to 31 March despite reporting a profit of 27bn yen for the last three months of 2013.

Sales in the quarter rose from a year earlier thanks to a 'significant increase in sales of smartphones'.

In the same quarter a year earlier Sony had reported a net loss of 10.8bn yen.

The electronics maker said its latest financial results were also helped by a favourable exchange rate, an improvement in the operations of its home entertainment segment, and the launch of its PlayStation 4 video-game console.
